Caring for the Littlest Learners

Beth Payne has worked in childcare for three years. She works for Kids Collective, serving families at Abundant Life Childcare. What began as a practical decision soon grew into a meaningful and rewarding career.
“I began childcare to be able to take my son to work with me and still have a little bit of a paycheck,” Beth shared.
But it didn’t take long for Beth to discover a deeper purpose in her work—one rooted in connection, trust, and the incredible growth that happens in the earliest stages of life.
“My favorite part of my job is seeing the impact I am making in the lives of the infants I care for. I really enjoy watching them grow,” she said. “As hard as it is to watch the kiddos age out of my class, I love seeing them walk by and stop to get a hug.”
Beth also values the strong relationships she builds with families, recognizing the level of trust it takes for parents to place their children in someone else’s care.
“It takes a special trust to leave your children in the care of others. To know my parents have full trust in me and the care that I provide is something I will never take for granted.”
Her nominator, Mahlyn, shared just how meaningful that trust has been for her family:
“Miss Beth is the best provider in the WORLD! Day in and out she loves all of the little babies. As a first-time mom, it is so reassuring to be able to leave my baby every day and know that he is being loved and well cared for. We are so thankful for her and the rest of the staff!”
Beth understands that childcare plays a critical role not just for families, but for the entire community.
“Childcare is the foundation for children’s lives. If parents are in need of childcare, it’s very important that the community help fill that need through home providers and centers,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation for the Reno County Child Care Task Force and the support it provides to local providers.
“I love that the task force provides training events for providers and that we are able to get paid for it. I also enjoy the treats, pizza, and drinks we receive!”
For those considering a career in childcare, Beth offers a simple but heartfelt piece of advice:
“If you are considering working in childcare, be prepared to have the tiniest best friends.”
Beth says she is honored to be recognized as Provider of the Month and grateful for the role she plays in each child’s journey.
“I am so honored to be nominated for provider of the month. I am blessed to be a small part of their journey, and something I will always treasure.”
Congratulations, Beth! Your compassion, dedication, and love for the children and families you serve are a powerful reminder of the vital role childcare providers play in strengthening Reno County.
