November's Child Care Provider of the Month honor goes to Jennifer Herion, a dedicated childcare provider in Reno County for more than a decade.
“I started in 2013 with childcare because I really wanted to stay home with my kids,” Jennifer said. But she soon discovered, it wasn’t just about staying home—it was about making a difference in the lives of other families, too.
Since then, Jennifer has turned her home into a nurturing space where children are treated like her own. She says, “The most rewarding part is getting to know the families. They come in as strangers, and over time, they become like family.” Through the years, Jennifer has built lasting relationships with parents and their children, who she considers an extension of her own family.
Lifelong Learning and Lasting Connections
Jennifer’s commitment to providing high-quality care is evident in her ongoing efforts to grow and improve as a provider. She’s attended several training sessions provided by the Reno County Child Care Task Force, and is adamant that continuing education is crucial to continued success.
“The trainings provided by the Task Force are a lifesaver,” she said. “It’s hands-on, and you’re there in person, getting to know other providers, asking questions, and learning together. It’s actual people talking and having fun. I’ve made so many connections, and that’s been really valuable.”
In addition to the training programs, Jennifer has also benefited from the Task Force’s Retention Grants, which have been crucial in helping her manage the financial demands of running a childcare business. “The grants I get from the Task Force help out tremendously,” Jennifer said.
“They help me stay afloat when I’m having a bad month. They help with groceries, bills, and everything else I need to keep my daycare running smoothly. It’s a really, really big help, and it’s very much appreciated.”
Congratulations, Jennifer, on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication to childcare is appreciated.
