Accelerator Funds Help Abundant Life Childcare and Preschool’s Journey Toward Expansion

For over 25 years, Abundant Life Childcare and Preschool (ALCC), located at The Father’s House Church, has been a trusted childcare provider for families in Reno County. With a capacity of 100 children, ALCC has long been a vital resource for working parents. Recognizing the increasing demand for childcare, the center made the decision to expand, aiming to add 70 new slots to better serve the community.

Thanks to Accelerator Grant Funds from the Reno County Child Care Task Force, they were able to start the process of purchasing the supplies and upgrades needed for this to happen. Heather Hoover, Center Director at ALCC reflects on this process:

We've used accelerator grants to buy updated and new supplies for the classrooms. We've also added keypads to the front door and the playground door to just add an extra layer of security. We're updating items on the playground, all sorts of fun things like that. We did all of that to increase the childcare experience and to increase slots.”

However, expanding childcare services isn’t without its challenges. Along the way ALCC learned that to move forward with the expansion, they would need to make additional classroom updates, adding to the overall project cost and delaying the progress.

"Unfortunately, we ran into a roadblock when adding additional slots," Hoover explained. "These updates were necessary, but they impacted our steps going forward."

Navigating these logistical hurdles while continuing daily childcare operations has been no small feat. Renovating an active childcare space required temporarily closing areas of the building—an inconvenience that parents handled with patience and understanding.

"We are very lucky to have had such supportive parents throughout this process," Hoover shared.

As ALCC moves closer to achieving its goal of adding 70 new childcare slots, they remain grateful for the community’s support and the resources provided by the Reno County Child Care Task Force.

"We're very thankful for the support we've received in overcoming these challenges," Hoover said. "Hopefully very soon, we’ll be able to meet our goal and provide even more families with the childcare they need. I’ve personally worked here for 13 years, and I’ve seen firsthand the impact our staff has on children—and the impact children have on us. It’s an incredible thing to be part of.”
