May Provider of the Month: Christina “Yaya” Mintz

For nearly 30 years, Christina Mintz, affectionately called “Yaya” by the families she serves, has been a trusted and caring childcare provider for families in Reno County. What began as something she planned to try for just a short time quickly grew into a lifelong passion—and today, her impact spans generations.  “I thought I would try it for one month and here I am...still loving my job,” said Christina.

Christina’s daycare is more than a place for children to spend their days. She has built a nurturing environment where children are supported from infancy through their early school years, forming strong relationships and gaining the foundation they need to thrive.

One of the most remarkable aspects of her work is the lasting trust she has built with families. She is now caring for the children of parents she once watched grow up themselves—a full-circle moment that speaks to the deep connections she forms and the consistency of care she provides year after year.

Her work also reflects the critical role childcare plays in a strong community. Families rely on safe, dependable care to work and support their households, and providers like Christina make that possible. Her willingness to serve families with varying schedules, combined with her decades of experience, has made her an essential part of Reno County’s childcare landscape.

Through her involvement with the Reno County Child Care Task Force, Christina continues to grow professionally while contributing to a network that supports providers across the region. Access to training, resources, and peer connections helps ensure that children and families receive the highest quality care.  “I’ve been able to use retention funds from the task force, and they work so hard to help us providers succeed,” said Christina. “I just love raising my little sweeties from infants to school age and watching them thrive. It's so rewarding!”

What Families Are Saying

The impact of Yaya’s care is best expressed by the families she serves:

  • “My daughter absolutely loves Yaya. She wakes up asking to go to her house every morning and gives her hugs when she arrives and when she leaves.”

  • “She was so patient and kind with me, and it has only gotten better. My daughter has made great friends there and truly feels at home.”

  • “Yaya is superwoman. She loves all the kids so much, and it shows in everything she does.”

  • “Knowing my daughter is being cared for by someone who truly cares makes all the difference.”

  • “She has become like family to us. I can’t imagine trusting anyone else the way we trust her.”

  • “She is the only provider who could meet our schedule, and I truly don’t know what we would have done without her.”

Christina “Yaya” Mintz’s impact goes far beyond childcare. She has built relationships that last a lifetime, supported working families, and helped shape the next generation in Reno County.

Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to children make her a truly deserving Provider of the Month!
