Position Title: Executive Director

Reports To: Board of Directors

Location: Reno County, Kansas

Status: Full-time (Exempt)

 

SUMMARY

Kids Collective, Inc. is a nonprofit startup focused on creating sustainable, high-quality childcare solutions that meet the needs of working families, staff, and businesses throughout Reno County. We are founded on the belief that childcare is a collective community issue, requiring a collective solution. Through strong partnerships with local organizations, public entities, and private industry, we are poised for rapid growth and expansion. Kids Collective’s model simplifies participation for parents, educators, and employers alike, making quality care more accessible and sustainable.

 

We are seeking a visionary Executive Director with experience in childcare management to lead our organization through this pivotal stage of development. This role will be responsible for strategic leadership, program oversight, regulatory compliance, fiscal stewardship, and staff and community engagement. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to implement the organization’s vision and ensure operational excellence across all sites.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following and other duties as assigned.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP & STRATEGIC GROWTH

  • Lead Kids Collective through startup and expansion phases.

  • Partner with community stakeholders to align with workforce and family needs.

  • Implement and refine sustainable childcare models that support operational and financial stability.

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors on developing and implementing strategic planning, short-term and long-term funding strategies, and advocacy.

 

PROGRAM OVERSIGHT & COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure compliance with KDHE, DCF, CACFP, KSFM, and Department of Labor regulations.

  • Maintain licensure and accreditation standards for all operating sites.

  • Conduct regular quality and compliance reviews, driving continuous improvement.

 

FISCAL MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee budget development, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Coordinate with accounting partners to ensure transparency and compliance with nonprofit standards.

  • Manage grant and funding allocations and reporting requirements.

 

HUMAN RESOURCES & CULTURE

  • Recruit, retain, and develop high-quality staff.

  • Promote a culture of inclusion, support, and accountability.

  • Provide leadership training and ensure staff have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.

 

FAMILY & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Serve as the public face of Kids Collective.

  • Build and maintain relationships with families, businesses, funders, and community partners.

  • Create outreach and communication strategies that promote enrollment and support.

 

PROGRAM OPERATIONS

  • Oversee operational logistics, including scheduling, supply management, and daily execution.

  • Ensure safe, welcoming, and high-functioning environments for children, families, and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, nonprofit management, or related field required.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in childcare management or nonprofit administration.

  • Experience in regulatory compliance, grant management, staff supervision, and community engagement required.

  • Exceptional communication and coalition-building skills

 

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary is expected to start at $90,000 plus benefits, depending on experience.
