Provider of the Month: Cindy Wenner

Childcare has been Cindy Wenner’s life passion for more than three decades. She’s held various roles in schools and centers in Hutchinson, but when her own children were young, she decided to go into business for herself.

“I've been doing childcare for 33 years. I decided to go ahead and open my own daycare, and that's where Happy Kids Daycare came from.”

Cindy has not only provided a loving environment for a countless number of kids to grow and learn over the years, she’s served multiple generations under her roof.

"I've actually had daycare kids that were little kids that have had children who have brought their children back and I've had them in daycare--that was actually a goal of mine.”

Cindy’s dedication to molding young hearts and minds hasn’t gone unnoticed, and that’s why her nominator had this to say: “Cindy has taken care of my kids for over a decade. She has invested in them and loved them as her own. I appreciate her hard work and her dedication to her families.”

Of course Cindy hasn’t been able to do it on her own. Community organizations like the Reno County Child Care Task Force have provided the resources and encouragement needed to continue doing the work she loves.

“I am grateful for the support provide by Reno County Child Care Task Force,” said Cindy. “People don't realize how expensive it really is to run a daycare."

Though Cindy has faced her share of challenges over the years, her heart is 100% invested in being a safe place for the children in her care.

“It's a great career choice for me personally and for anybody who loves children because that is really what it's all about is loving kids, wanting to see the smiles and their happiness,” said Cindy.

Cindy has been a steady presence in the childcare community over the past thirty-plus years, and has been able to mentor others in the field.

“I would say to anybody who's getting into daycare or wants to get into daycare, the main thing that they really need to have is patience, a lot of kindness, a lot of understanding and know that each and every child is going to learn differently.”
