We're proud to recognize Lindsey Wendell, owner of Lindsey Wendell’s Childcare, as the Provider of the Month for August! With a heart for children and a passion for nurturing their growth, Lindsey exemplifies the dedication and care that make early childhood educators so essential to our community.
Lindsey’s journey in child care began right after high school when she took her first job at the YMCA under the mentorship of Heather Nelson. “She has helped lead me through my journey of becoming a licensed in-home provider, answering my abundance of questions and giving advice in every angle,” Lindsey shared. That early experience set her on a path to opening her own licensed child care, where she continues to make a meaningful impact every day.
“I’ve always had a passion for working with children and helping them grow,” Lindsey said. “Being a steady, caring presence in a child’s early years is something I find incredibly meaningful. I wanted a career where I could make a real difference every day, and child care gives me that opportunity.”
For Lindsey, no two days are ever the same—and that’s exactly what she loves about her work. “Every day is a new opportunity to make a positive impact in a child’s life. Watching them grow, learn, and discover the world around them brings me so much happiness,” she said.
Thanks to the Reno County Child Care Task Force, Lindsey has benefited from programs like retention grants, infant incentives, free training, and opportunities to network with other providers. These resources not only support providers like Lindsey in enhancing the quality of care but also help make child care more accessible for local families.
“It allows child care providers to do things, and provide things they may not always be able to do or afford, with things like the retention grants,” Lindsey explained. “When families have access to quality child care, parents can work and contribute to the economy, while children thrive in a safe, nurturing environment that supports their development. Caring about and supporting child care and child care workers means investing in the future success and well-being of our entire community.”
Lindsey also offers heartfelt advice to anyone considering a career in child care: “Lead with patience, compassion, and a genuine love for children. It’s a challenging but deeply rewarding path where the little moments like a child’s first word or a big smile make it all worth it!”
Congratulations, Lindsey, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to the children and families of Reno County!
